Heike Hänsel

Heike Hänsel is a member of the German Bundestag for the Left Party since 2005. She studied Ecotrophology at the Justus-Liebig-University Gießen. She has been active in the peace movement since 1988 and in the alter-globalization movement Attac since 2001. From 2001 to 2003, she was a member of the coordination council of Attac Germany and served as speaker of the EU-Working-Group of Attac Germany from 2004 to 2005. Also, Heike was head of the sub-committee United Nations, International Organizations and Globalization.
From 1997, she was employed at the association “Culture of Peace” and was an OSZE election observer – amongst others at the elections in Mostar 1997 and Kosovo 2001. She was a member of the cultural association “Violeta Parra” in Tübingen (Germany) where she campaigned for Chileans in exile and against the dictatorship of Pinochet. In 1988, as a member of the Mikis-Theodorakis-Choir she attended the major international cultural gathering “Chile Crea”.

Heike Hänsel is known for her constant commitment for the Latin American continent. The political developments of the ALBA states (Bolivarian Alliance for America) and the human rights situation in Colombia are of particular significance to her.
